. . . presented by Jason E Anderson
From the overhead sound of passing jet traffic to the muffled murmer of the refrigerator in one's home, noise surrounds us. Sometimes deafening, sometimes subtle, we are among a massive landscape of sound at all times. As urban American life seems to increase in loudness, its culture seems to follow in its footsteps... tv, radio, racecars, football, rock music. We train ourselves to tune out our environment, and in the meantime, another world hiding within our blind ears neglects to present itself.
In an effort to 'open ears' and provide a pathway to the sounds of the moment, the quiet sound series hopes to challenge listeners and artists alike.
concept:
The quiet sound series is the presentation of sound by artists working with music improvisation, phonography, sound art and/or composition. Each participating artist must perform under one restriction: to play quietly. The series will take place at various spaces throughout Seattle to allow shifts in the accompanying sounds of the space and surrounding environment.
